Campo de Golf Cajuiles
Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course #7
Created by Robert Gil
Cajuiles is located just southeast of Florida in La Romana,
Dominican Republic. In 1970, Alvaro Carta recruited Pete Dye to
construct a "special course" along the undisturbed coastline of
the Dominican Republic. With machetes in hand, and a hand-mixed
topsoil, the site was cleared and formed. It took the work of 300
locals to bring the course to life. The course is often compared
to Pebble Beach, although it is not quite as dramatic due to the
lack of sheer cliffs. Coconut trees abound in this paradise of
small greens, narrow fairways and huge bunkers. It isn't a long
course, like Pebble Beach, at only 6,843 yards. Yet, it is the rare
golfer who can record a sub-par round. Water sees to that. Its
everywhere on the course, and you'll have to hit directly over
it on at least six holes! The course isn't all water though,
and that's where Pete gets going. His love of the traditional
Scottish links shows up here with knolls, pot bunkers and rolling
fairways. Many of the holes directly resemble some of the more
famous holes in Scotland. For instance, the 2nd hole is modelled
after the 18th at Prestwick.
Notes on construction:
This course was intended for play only on Jack Nicklaus Signature
Golf. It will not load on the older versions of Nicklaus golf games.
Many hours were spent drawing the fairways, greens and bunkers to
exact specifications. Trees and bushes have been placed where
they really exist. Some holes will feature coral banking just like
the real course. Yardage has been carefully measured to provide an
accurate rendition of the Campo de Golf Cajuiles.
This is just one course available to you. If you like what you see
and want more, please write to:
